GREEN SCREEN

GREEN SCREEN is a mockumentary comedy about the making of Less Throttle: How Green is my Salad, a film that set out to be the most environmentally movie ever produced. Among the environmental practices followed by director Davide Montebruno are: not having the actors use scripts (paper is forbidden entirely on the production), using solar power energy, recording on old video tapes and using a “recycled” camera borrowed from his old employer. Even the food for the craft services table is recycled.

Montebruno’s film was originally intended to be a big budget, blockbuster Hollywood action movie but because of the toll his environmental extremism took on the cast and crew he instead creates a completely different film (which even incorporates found footage) that goes on to critical acclaim.

Following the fictional director’s lead we, the filmmakers, used no paper in the production of GREEN SCREEN, leaving the actors to improvise their lines. However, we shot on digital so the end product is a blend of modern technology (our film) and not-so-modern technology (the film within our film).

The message behind GREEN SCREEN is simple – that the process of filmmaking can be damaging to the environment, but it doesn’t have to be. While Montebruno’s methods are played up for laughs in our film, his goal is no joke – despite the protests of his pampered actors.
